It is perhaps this that makes it somewhat forgotten yet it is this that makes it my favourite album of theirs. I have to say that this is a fine album and along with tangram 1980 is certainly one of the better albums released by tangerine dream during the 1980s. Vinyl lp album promo country. The decision not to renew the contract must have given messrs froese franke and schmoelling a real boot up the jacksey musically and creatively because hyperborea is in my opinion the best record that this line up made for virgin.

The virgin recordings 1980 1983 showcases the next chapter and features newly remastered versions of the albums tangram thief exit white eagle logos hyperborea along with the previously unreleased soundtracks.

There exists another version identical in almost every way but with a mould sid code on the matrix hub pointing to a post 1993 reissue repress. Hyperborea is very much an anomaly in this era of tangerine dream being more based around suggestive mood pieces than simple pop pieces or extensive synth solos. Hyperborea 1983 would prove to be the last tangerine dream album released on the virgin records label and the mood throughout is contemplative. Hyperborea was the last album that tangerine dream made on the virgin label after a near ten year association and to be fair lots of success.
